Are You Just a Copycat?
Are you ever original?
Or just a copycat?
Always watching others,
Imitating this and that?
Are you really insecure?
Is that why you mimic?
Never thinking for yourself,
Just another gimmick.
At first, I was offended,
Felt used and abused.
Your actions left me angry,
Honestly a little confused.
I didn’t understand
Why you acted so arrogant,
Pretending you were better,
Like you were significant.
While not thinking for yourself,
And just mirroring me,
It felt so infuriating,
Made me want to scream.
But after some reflection
I think I now see,
You’re really just afraid
Of truly being seen.
So you act like an echo
And repeat after me.
Your unoriginality
Keeps you under lock and key.
Because the secret is,
True freedom resides
When you embrace yourself
And no longer hide.
For each one of us
Has a unique truth,
A gift we can share
From our own view.
But instead you’re stuck
In patterns of self-doubt,
So you look outside
For direction and clout.
I hope one day soon
You’ll stop duplicating,
Instead embrace courage
And your own creating.
Until that day though
I’ll keep embodying bravery,
Remembering that copying
Is a deep form of flattery.
Thanks for the compliment,
It helps me to see
That my work is important
And worth being seen.
