To the Heartbroken
When a heart breaks
It breaks in many ways,
Sometimes in half,
Other times it’s chipped
Or fractured or dented,
And every so often it shatters,
Leaving it in a million pieces.
Not every heart break is equal,
Some weigh more than others,
Some are dusted off,
Others are hidden,
Some take years to heal,
While others fade away.
Each heartbreak is unique.
Many tragic love affairs,
Others quiet relationships,
Or long-held friendships,
Ending without a battle,
But instead slowly over time.
Each deserves to be honored
And witnessed in its entirety.
Because in a way
Every heart break is a story,
With a beginning, middle, end.
And every story
Deserves to be heard.
For through story
We learn and grow,
And we gain a new view.
So to all the heartbroken,
Share your stories of breakage,
Because each one marks courage
And is a testament of your love.
And a life of love is better
Than a life with no love,
Even if that love is lost,
For if we live without heart,
Are we living at all?
Every time you choose love
Knowing that it may not last,
You are one of the brave
And a beautiful soul.
So cherish each love
And honor it if it ends.
And always remember
Your heart will mend.
